Police investigate shooting reported at Springfield apartment complex

Police are investigating a shooting that was reported at a Springfield apartment complex over the weekend.

Officers responded around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday to Ronez Manor Apartments for someone being shot, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they found the victim lying on the ground in front of one of the apartments with a gunshot wound in the back.

“The officer applied pressure to the wound with a sweatshirt that was being applied by (the victim’s wife)," the report stated.

Officers then talked to the wife about the incident, in which she said she and the victim had been drinking earlier in the night before they went to bed.

“After they went to bed, (the wife) stated (the victim) got out of bed and went downstairs into the living room. (The wife) then followed after him and they started arguing,” the report stated. “In the midst of them arguing, all of a sudden (the victim) was shot in the back while in the living room from the outside of their apartment.”

Police found three spent shell casings and one live round in front of the apartment, the report stated.

The victim was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center and later transported to Miami Valley Hospital by a CareFlight ground unit.

The victim’s condition is not known at this time. The Springfield News-Sun has reached out to the hospital for more information.
