Ohio State to set graduation record at commencement on Sunday

Ohio State University will award degrees to the largest graduating class in university history on Sunday.

Ohio State will award 11,734 degrees in a ceremony set for noon Sunday in Ohio Stadium. The 2017 graduating class size surpassed the previous records of 11,235 set in 2016, and 11,040 set in 2015, according to OSU.

The commencement address will be given by Abigail Wexner, a community leader, philanthropist and university trustee.

Each graduate will receive his or her own diploma at the ceremony, a practice rarely attempted by a university the size of Ohio State, according to the school.

The stadium will open two hours prior to the ceremony at 10 a.m. The ceremony itself will last up to 3 hours, according to the university.

No tickets are required and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
