New unemployment rates relatively unchanged in Clark, Champaign counties

The unemployment rates for Clark and Champaign counties stayed relatively the same between July and August.

Both those rates changed very slightly between the two months with Clark County’s going from 8.4% to 8.3%. In Champaign County, that number went from 7% in July to 7.1% in August.

Unemployment rates spiked at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic reaching an all time high for the year so far between March and April.

During that time, the unemployment rate in Clark County went from 5.3% in March to 17.4% in April. In Champaign County, that rate went from 4.6% to 20.1% between those two months.

However, the unemployment rate in both counties have gradually decreased following April.

In August, the number of Clark County residents employed or actively looking for work increased from 63,000 to 63,900, with 58,600 listed as employed, when compared to the previous month.

In Champaign County that number was 19,900 in August, with 18,500 listed as employed, when compared to the 19,600 reported in July.
