Samina Ahmed, who was a co-presenter on last month’s program on family stories, will lead Thursday’s discussion. Ahmed is a member of the Miami Valley Islamic Association and Masjid Al-Madina Mosque in Springfield.
She lives in Springfield with her husband, raised three children and is a longtime member of the Global Education and Peace Network.
Members of Springfield’s Muslim community have frequently worked to improve the Springfield community, volunteering at various events and collaborating with area churches to donate items to the Springfield Soup Kitchen, attending services of other faiths as a show of support and sharing their culture during an annual statewide Islamic day event.
Ahmed will also speak on how the Muslim community is addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and racism, which are ongoing themes of this season’s events, according to the speaker series.
The event will also feature a question-and-answer session. Interested participants can get access to the program’s Zoom link by contacting Adrienne Stilwell at 937-324-7380 or email at astilwell@springfieldohio.gov.
The program will also stream live on the City of Springfield’s YouTube channel.
The Global Education and Peace Network Speaker Series is presented monthly through May. For a calendar of future programs, go to the Global Education page on the Springfield government website.
