Wittenberg professor wins award for Standing Up to POTS

A Wittenberg University professor won an award last week at the NeuroConnect Summit in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Cathy Pederson and her family were honored with the Warrior Award for their work with Standing Up to POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), which they founded in 2014 after their daughter Lily became ill at age 10.

POTS is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system and affects heart rate, blood vessel dilation, movement of food through digestive system and body temperature. It can cause dizziness, fainting and blood pooling in extremities.

The Pederson family has raised over $100,000 for POTS research and has awarded grants to five POTS research teams in four countries. They also host an annual Standing Up to POTS 5K/2K at Wittenberg each fall.
