What do the News-Sun’s readers think about new child support law?

“It was a needed change because it was based upon data from the 1980s and obviously the cost of living has changed a lot since then,” said Virginia Martycz,  Clark County Department of Jobs and Family Service director.

Eli Williams, founder and CEO of Urban Light Ministries in Springfield, said the system will be fairer.

“If it results in the child support payer being able to pay, that’s a good thing for his child,” he said. “Whereas, if it’s out of reach … and they just bail on it, that’s not helping anyone.”

Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich signed the bill into law last June. It took effect March 28.

"Child support should stop payments on any parents who refuse the other parent the right to see their child also," said Karon Dixon.

"Mother's can have to pay support too. What's this 'his child?' Or is it a subtle admittance they have be harder on men," Erin Ben Flaker said.

"Take ...(their) drivers license away that's what Texas does . No excuse why they can't pay support," Mary Davis said.

"People screaming take their drivers license or throw them in jail. Could someone please explain what either of these actions will solve," Michael Miller said.

"Child support is an absolute joke! Before I had custody of my son I had to carry health insurance and pay more than his mother pays and was making less an hour than she does now. The system is set up for the father to fail! Change my mind," Jerry Mcfarland Jr. said.
