Preparing the grounds for agriculture meant clearing the land and turning the earth to plant crops, so plows, whether powered by mechanical power, animals, or people have always been vital.

The earlier plow shown here, on display at the Heritage Center, was repaired using the ramrod from a military musket, providing a very literal interpretation of the phrase “swords to plowshares.”
