The Shawnee "walking bow," recovered from the field where the Battle of Piqua (Peckuwe) took place on August 8, 1780, is an amazing piece of history, one of only two known “walking bows” in existence.

It is called a “walking bow” because it's so long, you can’t ride a horse and use it.

The bow was preserved for years in the walls of an old cabin and eventually came to the Clark County Historical Society with the blessing of a Shawnee representative, in the form of a small bag of ceremonial herbs kept in the case below the bow, found on the second floor of the Heritage Center.
