Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church was once located at the southeast corner of Columbia and Plum.

It was founded on March 1, 1851 after breaking off from St. John’s Lutheran and after having a couple of temporary locations, construction began on the church, which was dedicated on December 22, 1867.

Plans were made for a new building in 1956 on the same spot, but since there were already 4 other Lutheran churches nearby, the congregation moved to a new building in on Broadway in 1960 and then the church was torn down in 1962.

Today, the corner is home to the Executive Inn and Senor Piquin Rivera restaurant.
