Officials: More residents have swine flu strain

More area cases of Influenza A H3N2v have been confirmed.

The Ohio Department of Health announced Tuesday afternoon the confirmation of five additional cases in Champaign County. It brings the total to 8 cases in Champaign and 54 in Ohio.

The flu cases in Champaign came from swine at the county’s fair, officials said.

Those with confirmed cases of H3N2v are between the ages of 6 months and 36 years old, according to the Department of Health. Since H3N2v cases were discovered in Ohio, five of the people with it were hospitalized but have since been treated and released.
