How to get rid of your old meds on National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Have unwanted, expired or unused pills or capsules? Drop them off to a local agency during the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This day is for a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs.

Pills and patches will be accepted. Liquids, needles and powders will not be accepted. Pills should be removed from containers and placed in a zipper-lock storage bag.

In Dayton, the police department is offering a five drop-off sites:

  • Headquarters and Safety Building, 335 W. Third St.
  • Central Patrol Operations Division, 248 Salem Ave.
  • East Patrol Operations Division North, 417 E. Helena St.
  • East Patrol Operations Division South, 2721 Wayne Ave.
  • West Patrol Operations Division, 951 Washington St.

Other area law enforcement agencies participating in drug take-back day include:

  • Kettering Police Department at T.J. Maxx in the Town and Country Shopping Center, 302 E. Stroop Road
  • Huber Heights Police Department, 6121 Taylorsville Road
  • Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Harrison Twp. Sub-Station, 5945 N. Dixie Drive
  • Greene County Sheriff's Office, 120 E. Main St. in Xenia
  • Fairborn Police Department, 70 W. Hebble Road
  • Vandalia Division of Police, 245 James Bohanan Drive

  • Beavercreek Police Department, 1388 Research Park Drive
  • Trotwood police department, 3035 Olive Road
  • Englewood Police Department at the government center, 333 W. National Road

  • Centerville Police Department in the Kroger parking lot, 1095 S. Main St.
  • Miami County Sheriff's Office Transfer Station, 2200 N. County Road 25A

  • Warren County Sherrif's Office at Kroger, 5100 Terra Firma Drive, Mason

Last year, nearly 460 tons – more than 900,000 pounds – of prescription drugs were turned in at over 5,800 sites.
