Recognized as the oldest independent private school in Ohio, Ridgewood School opened in 1919.

It was originally called “The Little School in the Woods,” and was located at the corner of North Fountain Boulevard and Harding, shown here in 1938.

The land to build the school was donated by the Kissell Real Estate Company. Harry S. Kissell had already shown himself to be a pioneer with the planning and creation of the Ridgewood suburban community that encompassed the school.
