The Sears & Roebuck Company, which began in 1886 in Minneapolis, first came to Springfield in 1927. The store originally opened at 112 E. Columbia St. before moving to E. High Street in 1935.

Sears's ever-popular and fully stocked candy counter is shown here during Christmas time in the 1950s.

Shoppers came here for all kinds of goodies for holiday gifts and entertaining, including Brach’s chocolate covered cherries and their popular Santa’s Candy Workshop, both which are displayed prominently on the counter.
