Here are a few ways to keep your pumpkin fresh until Halloween:
- Wait as long as possible before carving
- Cut a hole in the back of the pumpkin, instead of near the stem, to take out the innards
- Coat the carved sections of the pumpkin, a Jack-o-Lantern at this point, with petroleum jelly to keep it from drying out
- Spray your Jack-o-Lantern with bleach. This will help keep mold or black mildew from growing inside
- Spray your pumpkin daily with water with a little bleach to keep it hydrated. Dry pumpkins tend to shrivel
- Keep it in a cool spot or in the refrigerator during the day, and perhaps on nights when temperatures drop into the 20s
