No foul play suspected in boy’s fall into fire pit

No evidence of foul play is suspected in an incident involving a 2-year-old boy who was burned after falling into a campground fire pit.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office announced that determination Wednesday night in a tersely worded statement.

Deputies and Quincy Fire Department EMS were dispatched to the Oakdale Campground, 4611 State Route 235, at about 12:28 p.m. on a report of a child who had “fallen into a campfire and suffered injuries.”

CareFlight was dispatched to the facility in the county Village of Quincy and ferried the child to Dayton Children’s Medical Center.

The condition of the child was not available through the hospital on Wednesday night.

According to the child’s father, the boy suffered second-degree burns but should be OK.

He told a News Center 7 videographer he was going home to change a younger child when the victim somehow fell into the fire.
