Clark County had just slightly above a 20% turnout for Tuesday’s primary election, according to unofficial results from the Clark County Board of Elections.

About 87,000 Clark County residents are registered to vote. Of that, about 17,916 ballots were cast in Tuesday’s election, according to unofficial results.

Those numbers are down significantly from 2016’s primary election — where voter turnout was 43% and 37,50 ballots were cast, according to official election results on the Clark County BOE’s website.

The Clark County Board of Elections had mailed out a total of 15,672 absentee ballots for Tuesday’s unprecedented election, the board’s director Jason Baker said on Tuesday.

Residents were given the option to drop off absentee ballots in a secure lockbox in the board’s parking lot or call the office directly and complete a ballot in person in their vehicle, Baker said. Many residents took advantage of the opportunity, with a steady stream of cars going and going at the board’s office until polls closed at 7:30 p.m.

Voters were given the same options in Champaign County, Board of Elections’ director Meredith Bodey said.

In Champaign County, about 7,050 ballots were cast out of 25,617 voters making voter turnout 27% in the county, according to unofficial results from the Champaign County Board of Elections.

That was also a significant drop in voter participation for Champaign County. In 2026, there was a 44% turnout, with 11,287 ballots cast.

Bodey said in Champaign County, 5,801 absentee ballots had been mailed out as of Monday.
