F-16s could soar near Springfield today in intercept defense exercises

Springfield area residents may see and hear F-16 fighter jets training in the region between 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today, according to the Ohio Air National Guard.

The jets will practice air defense intercepts with a Civil Air Patrol aircraft, the Air Guard said.

The jets are assigned to the 180th Fighter Wing at Toledo Air National Guard Base and fly in the Springfield region periodically as part of military exercises.

Inclement weather could delay or cancel the flights, the Guard said.
