Hobby Lobby plans 65 new stores this year

Hobby Lobby plans to continue its steady growth through the rest of 2019.

The arts and crafts store plans to open 65 new stores and relocate 16, creating between 2,500 and 3,000 jobs. The changes add to 54 new stores and 20 relocations in 2018, according to a company statement.

Some arts and crafts stores have been successful among changing consumers. Hobby Lobby is among others like new-to-the-market A.C. Moore that have expanded in recent months. A.C. Moore opened its first Dayton-area shop in Centerville late last year.

Others have struggled. Pat Catan’s, a branch of Michaels Companies, announced plans to close all 36 stores, including one in Springfield.

There are Hobby Lobby stores currently on Bechtle Avenue in Springfield, Old Troy Pike in Huber Heights, North Fairfield Road in Beavercreek, Springboro Pike in Miamisburg and Gilmore Road in Hamilton, among others in the Cincinnati area.
