There’s a metal vault below the ground that houses power components for the three buildings, which are all within a few hundred feet of one another, and the excessive rain caused the vault to fill with water that led to one of the system components failing, said Jenna Leinasars, communications specialist.
The buildings had partial power in certain areas, but functions such as Wi-Fi, phones, power in kitchens and several classrooms were inoperable, Leinasars said.
Wednesday evening activities will take place and school will be held Thursday as scheduled unless otherwise announced, according to Springfield City School District.
