U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos in Ohio today


U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is in Van Wert today, to participate in a roundtable discussions with public school educators. 

DeVos and American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten are meeting with pre-K, early childhood and special education teachers and staff. They will also tour classrooms and hear presentations from students in robotics and engineering classes.

WHIO-TV’s Steve Baker is there today. 

A group of demonstrators are restricted to a small area in a parking lot at the high school. They are holding signs in support of public education while against the concept of charter schools.

On the opposite side of the high school about a half dozen unmanned parked pickup trucks are parked with American flags showing support for President Donald Trump. Everyone has been peaceful.
