Warrant issued in New Carlisle bank robbery case

NEW CARLISLE — Authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of a man who they believe has robbed at least two banks in Southwest Ohio, including one in New Carlisle, within the last month.

The warrant was issued Monday, Aug. 30, for the arrest of Jerry D. Roe, 46, on a charge of aggravated robbery. Roe, who is currently at large, is accused of entering the WesBanco Bank, 210 N. Main St., in New Carlisle at 9:42 a.m. on Aug. 10. Authorities said he was wearing a Halloween mask of an old man and a heavy black winter coat during the robbery. He threatened the clerk with a handgun before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly said Roe is also accused of robbing a bank in West Milton this month. Authorities used video evidence and information from a witness to identify Roe.

Officials believe Roe is driving a blue 2009 Chevy Cobalt with the license plate EMZ-812. Kelly said he has a history of previous bank robberies and should be considered armed and dangerous. Kelly also said anyone who sees him should not try to apprehend Roe on their own.

“He has to know at this point that he is a wanted fugitive,” Kelly said.

It is possible that Roe fled the state, but anyone with any information is asked to call the Clark County Sheriff’s Office at (937) 328-2560, dial 911, or call a local law enforcement agency.

Roe has served time previously in the past. Kelly said he was placed on parole in 2008 after serving a jail sentence in West Virginia for a 1998 bank robbery.

Roe was born in Florida, but his last known address is in Oceanside, Calif.

“This man, I believe, has connections across the United States,” Kelly said.
