Springfield police investigating human remains

Springfield Police are investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains found behind the Knights Inn, 2207 W. Main St.

Springfield police officers were alerted to the scene by a citizen who called late Friday saying they had discovered skeletal remains, according to Lt. Brad Moos, Springfield Police Division.

Police tape blocked entrance to the brushy area that borders the nearby Ohio Edison Power Plant and the motel on Saturday as officers brought in the Evidence Collection truck and shovels.

The remains could have been there since last summer or longer, said Clark County Coroner Richard Marsh. It will take weeks to determine the age and gender. “We do know it’s an adult,” he said.

The police department will check missing persons lists and with area motels to see if they reported belongings left in a room, he said.

One person is currently reported missing in the county, Clark County Sheriff’s officials said Saturday. That person, an adult, was reported missing on April 4.
