One person entered the bank and approached a teller, said Sgt. Jeff Flores with the Springfield Police Division. The teller reported seeing a weapon, he said.
The robber ran from the bank on foot and police later stopped a vehicle on Home Road west of North Limestone Street, where they put a person in a police cruiser and took them back to the bank.
A total of three people were detained and taken to police headquarters for questioning, Flores said, but no one had been charged in the case as of Wednesday evening.
Security National Bank President John Brown said no one was injured in the robbery.
“Hopefully we can apprehend the robber as most bank robberies end — the robber is apprehended,” Brown said. “I don’t understand why anyone would take the risk but obviously one person did today.”
Police detectives were seen Wednesday afternoon combing through yards on Hampton Place west of the bank, where the robbery suspect reportedly fled after the crime.
Investigators asked that anyone who might seen the robber or found evidence in the area to call Springfield Police at 937-324-7685.
