Police: Couple gets in argument, man hits another man with hammer

A Springfield man has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a man he had been dating with a hammer.

Brandon Thomas faces a felonious assault charge against another man for an incident that happened at 1719 Mount Street on Monday, the affidavit says. He appeared on Tuesday in Clark County Municipal Court.

The affidavit says officers arrived on scene to find drops of blood on the doorstep of the home and a man inside with injuries to his forearm and above his eye.

The man told officers that he and Thomas had been arguing in a car because Thomas had been “messing around” with another man, the affidavit says.

When the man tried to exit the car, Thomas grabbed a hammer and struck the victim multiple times, the affidavit says.

CRIME: Olympic Coney Island in Springfield burglarized

The defendant left the area and went to his apartment on Burnett Road, the affidavit says.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Springfield Regional Medical Center, the affidavit states.

Felonious assault is a second degree felony and carries a penalty of 2-8 years in prison or a $15K fine.

Thomas’s bond is set at $20,000.
