Man who allegedly led police on chase, crashed into house indicted

A Dayton man was indicted in Clark County Common Pleas Court accused of leading Springfield police on a high-speed chase and crashing into a home.

Kevin Cragg, 26, was indicted on counts of having weapons under disability, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle and failure to comply with order or signal of police officer.

Police seized drugs, guns, cash following a high-speed chase, an affidavit says.

Authorities at the scene said Cragg and a woman were arrested after a police pursuit that began as a traffic stop on Lafayette and Maryland avenues. Speeds reached up to 85 mph before the chase ended with the suspects’ SUV slamming into a house at Kenton and York streets.

Cragg and the woman were trapped when the vehicle came to rest on its top and caught fire. Springfield fire crews pulled the occupants from the vehicle and extinguished the flames. Both were taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, police.

Police recovered cash, 148 doses of heroin, 19 grams of cocaine, eight grams of marijuana and 46 pills from the vehicle, police said.

Three guns also were recovered, police said.
