Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies were flagged down by a man near North Bechtle Avenue and West First Street shortly before 2 a.m. Friday. He said a man he didn’t know was chasing and threatening him with two knives. The suspect was believed to be hiding nearby in a parking lot, said Sheriff Gene A. Kelly.
A man matching the suspect’s description — later identified as Marshall — was found nearby, wielding knives, Kelly said. He threw one, but Kelly said he still held the other as he tried to flee from deputies, who were ordering him to the ground.
“This man appeared very out of control,” Kelly said. “It could have been violent and it could have been deadly.”
A sheriff’s office sergeant deployed his Taser, striking Marshall. Even though he struggled and cursed at deputies while on the ground being searched, Kelly said, they stayed calm and acted appropriately.
“It was textbook,” Kelly said. “They remained calm. They gave clear commands.”
During his arraignment in Clark County Municipal Court Friday, Marshall seemed confused about the charges and said he didn’t know the victim. Judge Denise Moody told Marshall “then it shouldn’t be hard to comply with the court’s order” to stay away from him.
Marshall remains in the Clark County Jail on $3,000 bond.
