Patel is scheduled to be arraigned May 21 in Greene County Court in front of Judge Stephen A. Wolaver.
Under the Ohio Revised Code, a conviction of first-degree felony rape requires a prison sentence of not less than five years. Gross sexual imposition is a fourth-degree felony that carries sentences from six to 18 months while abduction is a third-degree felony, which carry sentences of one to five years each.
Patel, who has worked at the motel at 800 N. Broad St. since April 2009, was arrested April 23 by Fairborn detectives. They conducted an investigation in response to several female employees ages 20 to 45 who said Patel sexually harassed and assaulted them over the past several months.
“We have four different victims; they were all employees at one time at the hotel,” Greene County Prosecutor Stephen K. Haller said Friday, May 7. “It’s still under investigation. We may have even more victims, but those are the four that initially came forward.”
One alleged victim described a pattern of being groped, fear of the next incident and being pushed by Patel into rooms to be sexually harassed. A police report indicated the alleged rape happened Sept. 16, 2009, but was not reported until March.
“You can understand the position some of these women were in,” Haller said. “They’re working there, they want to keep their job, trying to put up with this conduct, and they may not have reported it initially.
“But then when others reported, they start checking and independently start confirming the same kind of conduct.”
Patel, who lived at the hotel with his wife and 3-year-old child, had his bond set at $20,000 cash, which he paid and was released.
