Young was arrested earlier this month for allegedly holding a family hostage briefly, according to court records.
Clark County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Travis Russell has declined to provide details or to answer several questions from the Springfield News-Sun about the circumstances surrounding Young’s death.
The body has been sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and an autopsy could take six to eight weeks, Russell told the News-Sun in an e-mail on Tuesday morning. An incident report will be made available once the case is closed, he said.
The jail called for medics about 10:20 a.m. April 6 for a man not breathing in the book-in area, according to a 9-1-1 call obtained by the News-Sun. The man was between the ages of 20 and 30, the caller told dispatchers.
It was the only 9-1-1 call from the jail that day, according to Springfield Communications Manager Paul Hicks.

Young faced multiple charges after police alleged he briefly held a family hostage after running from officers. He was charged with four counts of kidnapping, one count of burglary, and one count of obstructing official business, according to a police report.
An officer spotted Young in the 900 block of Selma Road on Tuesday and approached him because he believed Young had warrants. Young then took off running when another officer arrived on scene, police said. Officers followed and alleged they saw him enter a home on Selma Road, where he reportedly locked the door. Officers set up a perimeter around the home and were approached by the homeowner, who said his two sons, ages 3 and 5, and brother, 17, were inside.
Young later came out with one of the children and after being told several times to let the child go, he did and was arrested.
The children and another female victim were found safe and weren’t harmed.
