Springfield troopers find 35 stolen credit cards, fake IDs during stop

Two New York men were arrested in Moorefield Twp. on Sunday afternoon after state troopers allegedly found 35 stolen credit cards and several fake IDs in their possession.

Michael Wright, 27, of Brooklyn, N.Y., has been charged with four counts of forgery and one count of receiving stolen property, as well as additional traffic charges.

Xavier White, 26, also of Brooklyn, faces one count each of receiving stolen property, forgery and drug possession.

The men were pulled over for allegedly speeding on Ohio 4 in Moorefield Twp, troopers said. The driver, Wright, initially showed troopers a fake ID, according to court records. After searching the vehicle, troopers claimed they found several fake IDs, a large number of credit cards and a bundle of Home Depot gift cards and tools with return receipts attached.

One of the men reportedly told troopers they would use stolen credit cards and shop in different stores to purchase items they would then return for store credit, court records say.

A U.S. Secret Service agent also responded to investigate possible federal charges, according to court records.

Wright and White were expected in Clark County Municipal Court on Monday morning.
