Ancra currently makes the shells in Kansas, but plans to hire about 25 people locally to move the work and expects the operation to grow beyond that, said CEO Kevin Richards. Founded in 1969, Ancra also operates in California, Kentucky, Ontario, Australia and New Zealand.
TAC Enterprises, 2160 Old Salem Road, employs individuals with developmental disabilities. Through its AbilityOne Program, more than 250 of its employees manufacture over 120,000 cargo nets annually for the Air Force and have been repairing about 18,000 USAF cargo nets a year since 1982. While TAC hires people with developmental disabilities, the Ancra positions will be filled with more typical workers.
Ohio Department of Development Director Lisa Patt-McDaniel welcomed Ancra to the state and praised both companies for their investment in people with developmental disabilities.
“These are very talented people that not many employers are aggressive about hiring,” McDaniel said. “If we don’t utilize that talent, we’re just throwing it away.”
The partnership with Ancra, which will be located at 2130 Progress Drive, will reduce costs for TAC and will position the companies to expand to other markets, said TAC CEO Cliff Meyer.
Ancra is working with ARC Staffing Solutions to fill its openings, Richards said.
