Careflight responded to two crashes near Springfield within a few hours on Saturday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported in a release. One crash involved a single vehicle and the other involved a three-wheeled motorcycle and another vehicle.

The first crash occurred just after 3:30 p.m. on state Route 4 near Lower Valley Pike. Initial reports show that Raymond Castle, 54, was driving north on state Route 4 when he wet off the left side of the road, crossed the southbound lanes and rolled over. Castle was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the car, officials said.

A few hours later, a two-vehicle crash involving a three-wheeled motorcycle occurred on Dayton Springfield Road near South Tecumseh Road. Initial reports indicated that Nick Brandon, 52, of South Charleston was riding a three-wheeled motorcycle when he rear-ended a vehicle waiting to turn left onto South Tecumseh Road.

Brandon was ejected from his motorcycle and was taken by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital. His helmet was found in the trunk of his motorcycle. While Brandon’s condition was not immediately available, no one in the other vehicle was injured. Initial investigations indicated that speed an inattention were factors in the crash.

Both crashes remain under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
