“It’s an intentional gunshot wound by all of the investigation we have now,” Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly said.
The woman had surgery and remains in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital, Kelly said.
The business followed all safety requirements on renting a gun to the woman, he said, and it has a reputation for being a safe range.
UPDATE @ 10:45 p.m.
A 42-year-old woman is in critical condition after she suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her upper body at the Fox Shooting Loft.
The incident remains under investigation, and the woman has not been identified by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
UPDATE @ 8 p.m.
Detectives will be reviewing surveillance video as they investigate the self-inflicted shooting of a woman in her 40s, said Chief Deputy Doyle Wright of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. while the woman was shooting in the range at the Fox Shooting Loft.
“We’ll have to review the video to see what was occurring prior to that and to see what may have led up to this, if there was something where she may have fumbled with the weapon, Wright said.
Gun safety is important, he said, and one rule is to never point a weapon at a human life.
“Apparently, she wasn’t familiar with guns and the range folks had been working with her a little bit and she had already done some shooting when this occurred,” Wright said.
