Arrest in hit-and-run of toddler outside Cincy Zoo’s Festival of Lights

A man is in custody for the hit-and-run of a 3-year-old girl and her mother outside the PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Saturday, according to our partners at WCPO.

Donteiz Romond Dickey, 22, is in custody. Police said he struck Joy White, 27, and her 3-year-old daughter, Khloe Pitts.

Dickey faces two counts of aggravated vehicular assault and two counts of failing to stop after an accident.

A 3-year-old girl remains in critical condition after she and her mother were struck Saturday night by a hit-and-run driver while they crossed the street to go to the PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, our media partner, WCPO-TV reported.

The girl, identified as Khloe Pitts, was rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Her mother, identified as 27-year-old Joy White, is in serious condition at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. They are from Cincinnati, according to WCPO.

Police are looking for the driver of a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse that hit Khloe and her mother. The driver abandoned the car on Shields Street a short distance away. Any witnesses were urged to call the Cincinnati police traffic unit at 513-352-2514.

FIRST REPORT (Nov. 26)

A young girl is in critical condition after she and her mother were hit Saturday night while they crossed the street headed to the PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, our media partner WCPO-TV in Cincinnati reported.

The driver struck the woman and her 3-year-old daughter around 9 p.m. as they walked across Vine Street. The driver then abandoned the vehicle a short distance later on Shields Street, Cincinnati police told WCPO.

The girl was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where she was in critical condition Saturday night. Her mother is expected to survive and was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she was in stable condition, police said.

Witnesses told police the vehicle was headed south when it passed another car and ran a red light before hitting the mother and child, WCPO reported.

The pedestrian crash closed Vine Street near Erkenbrecher Avenue while police investigated, the station reported. Police are searching for a suspect and urged any witnesses or those with information to come forward.
