Swirl, sip and savor at home: Support local wineries by placing an order this weekend

As a result of the stay-at-home order issued in March, local wineries were forced to close their tasting rooms to the public. Despite this financial setback, many of Ohio’s wineries have adapted to the new regulations and continue to operate by doing carryout, delivery and online orders.

To spotlight this innovation, and to perhaps give local wineries another boost as we enter the final stages of the business shutdown, “TheWineBuzz,” an Ohio-based wine media company, has created a grassroots campaign to support these wineries.

More than 100 Ohio wineries will be participating in “Super Sipper Saturday” on Saturday, May 2. On this day, residents of Ohio are encouraged to support their local wineries by placing phone, online and email orders.

"We are thrilled to launch Super Sipper Saturday in support of wineries across the state of Ohio," Susan D. Myers, publisher of TheWineBuzz magazine, said in a release. "These small businesses represent a billion-dollar industry and more than 8,000 full-time jobs – and they're in jeopardy because of the COVID-19 crisis. We're asking Buckeyes and wine enthusiasts to shop their favorite Ohio wineries with phone, online and email orders on Saturday, May 2."

One of the many local wineries participating in “Super Sipper Saturday” is Dragonfly Vineyard and Wine Cellar, a family-owned winery operating on a four-acre rural vineyard in Urbana. Dragonfly Vineyard and Wine Cellar is just one of the many wineries adapting to these challenging times. Currently, the vineyard is offering case discounts, curbside service, free local delivery (within an 8-mile radius) and shipping throughout  Ohio and in most states.
