Acclaimed Brazilian quartet to bring new sounds to Yellow Springs

Guitars aren’t just for rock and roll.

Chamber Music Yellow Springs will bring in one of the world’s leading guitar ensembles in for its final regular concert of the season.

The Brazilian Guitar Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 25 at First Presbyterian Church, located at 314 Xenia Ave.

The Quartet features a rare combination of six-string and extended-range, eight-string guitars that makes for an unusual repertoire. The Brazilian Guitar Quartet has recorded six CDs over its career.

Sunday’s program will include two string quartets by Heitor Villa-Lobos along with selections by Ronaldo Miranda, Camargo Guarnieri and Francisco Mignone.

The evening’s program will begin at 6:45 p.m. with the preconcert lecture by famed local guitarist Jim McCutcheon.

Chamber Music in Yellow Springs will round out the 2017-2018 season with the annual Competition for Emerging Professional Ensembles on April 29.


Actress and North High School graduate Marsha Dietlein Bennett will attend the 7:30 p.m. showing of her new movie, “Getting Grace” on Friday, March 23, at Springfield’s Chakeres Cinema 10.

Dietlein Bennett has a starring role as a mom in the dramatic comedy about a girl with terminal cancer who shows others how to live fuller lives. She’ll do a meet and greet beginning at 6:45 p.m. and a question-and-answer session after the 7:30 screening.

She has starred in numerous films and television series including “Law & Order” and “Blue Bloods.”

“Getting Grace” will be shown at Cinema 10, located at 3115 E. National Road, through March 29.
