The holiday season will have the sound of brass mixed with voices as the Sanctuary Series welcomes a returning favorite.

Oakwood Brass will perform a concert of holiday classics for the second consecutive season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at High Street United Methodist Church.

The High Street United Methodist Church Chancel Choir will also perform on its own home stage in support of Oakwood Brass.

The event is free, but free-will offerings to support the series will be accepted. The Sanctuary Series offers monthly performances and concerts for no cost.

“Oakwood Brass is one of the finest instrumental ensembles in the greater Miami Valley,” said J. Chris Moore, High Street’s Musical Director of Traditional Worship. “They are not only an inspiration to those who hear them, but provide real inspiration for our Chancel Choir to sing their best.

“In addition to this annual holiday concert as part of the Sanctuary Series, the Brass plays for traditional morning worship every Easter Sunday.”

Oakwood Brass will perform two sets including settings of “We Three Kings,” “Carol Fantasy,” music from “Messiah,” and a world premiere of “English Christmas Carols-Suite for Brass” arranged by Matt Naughtin and edited by Eric Knorr.

Knorr and fellow trumpeter Daniel Zehringer also perform with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.

The Chancel Choir will join Oakwood Brass on “Joy in the Morning,” “Come, Let Us Adore Him,” “Rejoice, Christ Is Born” and “God with Us, Emmanuel!”

Moore and Kathleen Wilkins are the Choral directors.

Several choral settings will also be included: “All Is Well” will feature Dylan Atkins on flute; “The Snow Lay on the Ground” will feature Kate Boblitt on violin; and “Away in a Manger” will feature Martha Crawmer on cello. Settings of “Christmastime” by Michael W. Smith, and “Believe,” the theme song from “Polar Express,” will round out the show.

Following the concert, a holiday reception will be in the church commons.
