Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk will be the Grand Marshal for the fifth Dayton Concours d’Elegance at Carillon Park. “Arie Luyendyk is an open wheel racing legend and is the fastest driver to ever race at Indianapolis,” said Concours chairman Skip Peterson. “He holds the one and four lap qualifying records of over 236 mph and his 1990 victory is still the fastest Indianapolis 500 ever run.” Luyendyk drove in 17 Indianapolis 500 races, winning in 1990 and 1997 and he also started on the pole position three times.

Luyendyk will appear at the Concours on Sunday with one of his winning cars and will also be at the Saturday evening Preview Party. The Dayton Concours d’Elegance is honoring the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 and many cars that raced there will be shown.

The cars of 1911 and the Roaring 20’s will be also featured along with The Futurliner, a custom built coach that General Motors used in the 1950’s to tour the United States as part of it’s Parade of Progress.

The fifth Dayton Concours d’Elegance at Carillon Park presented by AAA Miami Valley will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011. Spectators will get to see up close, 200 antique and classic automobiles and motorcycles displayed on the grounds of Carillon Historical Park. There are 25 Best of Class awards and a number of specialty awards including the R. H. Grant Best of Show, Col. Edward Deeds Judge’s Choice, Charles F. Kettering People’s Choice and The Kid’s Choice Award.

Over 4,000 spectators attended the 2010 Concours, with all proceeds benefiting Dayton History, which operates Carillon Park and five other historic sites in the Miami Valley.
