Ohio’s largest 100 employers in 2017: Walmart tops the list

Walmart is back on top as Ohio’s biggest employer, regaining the No. 1 spot from the Cleveland Clinic, which usurped the giant Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer last year, according to a new list of the state’s top 100 employers.

Walmart — with 173 retail operations, including nearly two dozen in the Dayton area — has 50,500 employees in Ohio, according to the Ohio Development Services Agency.

Cleveland Clinic, a multispecialty academic hospital located in Cleveland, was second on the list in the 2017 rankings with 49,050 employees.

Local companies on the 2017 top 100 list include:

• Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, ranked No. 6 with 27,600 employees

• Premier Health, ranked No. 17 with 13,500 employees

• Kettering Health Network, tied with four other companies at No. 18 with 12,000 employees
