Northside Veterinary Clinic, 10 Critter Court, hired two associate veterinarians recently to fill the need for specialized animal care, according to a press release.
Dr. Alicia A. Griffin, equine and large animal specialist, and Dr. R. Jeff Schumann, who specializes in surgery, orthopedics and allergy, both joined the practice this year. Dr. Dana King has owned the practice for 34 years.
Griffin and Schumann join the practice as the need for vets increases nationally.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the need for vets – both for large and small animals – will grow by 22,000 by 2016, making it one of the fastest-growing professions. And currently Clark County farms raise more than 36,000 head of livestock, which includes almost 1,200 horses in addition to the 62 percent of homeowners who have a pet, according to the press release.
