Two companies will be holding job hiring events in Springfield this week.

Topre America Corp. and Westfield Steel have teamed up with local job placement agencies to fill open positions at their Springfield locations.

Topre America is working with OhioMeansJobs to find workers for its stamping and assembly facility in Springfield’s Champion City Business Park. OhioMeansJobs Clark County will be hosting a hiring event for the auto parts maker on Wednesday at 1345 Lagonda Ave., building B.

The event for Topre will start at 10 a.m. and last until 4:30 p.m. Candidates must bring a copy of their resume and have at least one year of experience in either assembly, maintenance, metal stamping, robotic welding or tool and die maintenance.

The hiring event this week will be screening candidates for 20 assembly workers and 15 metal press operators for Topre, said Clark County Job and Family Services Director Virginia Martycz.

“Candidates must have a strong and demonstrated work history in at least one of the skill sets that (Topre) is looking for,” Martycz said, noting that they are anticipating a large turnout.

She said her agency has been working with Topre in helping them find and screen candidates since the auto parts maker announced in 2016 that it would have a location in Springfield.

Since then the company has made multiple plans to expand and create additional jobs. Topre announced last month that it would invest $54 million and add 78,000 square feet to its Springfield facility. The project is slated to add 71 new jobs for the company, the News-Sun reported.

With that announcement, Topre has pledged a total investment of $182 million to its Springfield location as well as a commitment of creating a total of 360 jobs since making plans to move into the area three years ago.

Martycz said it is common for companies to contact her organization for help in the hiring process. During hiring events hosted by her organization, members of OhioMeansJobs will usually prescreen applicants before they are interviewed by a representative of a company looking to hire.

Martycz said for there are plenty of employers in Clark County that are looking to fill open positions.

On Tuesday, a job fair will be held at Westfield Steel, previously known as Remington Steel, 1120 South Burnett Road, in Springfield. It starts at 1 p.m. and will last for three hours. Representatives of the company said applicants will not need to get out of their cars.

The event is being organized by the steel distributor and Express Employment, according to a news-release. It is being marketed as a drive-thru job fair.
