FAIRBORN — High-profile politicians and celebrities including Steve Forbes, Rudy Giuliani, Bill Cosby and Gen. Colin Powell took the stage Wednesday at Wright State University’s Nutter Center to speak to an audience of more than 10,000 people.

Eight speakers appeared at the nearly sold-out Get Motivated! business seminar, one of many held throughout the nation to inspire and provide tips to businesses and workers.

Televangelist, pastor and author Dr. Robert Schuller spoke first for 15 minutes on achieving one’s dreams.

“I’m gonna give you a word that you gotta cut out of your vocabulary,” he said. “The word is ‘impossible.’ ... Cut it out of your life.”

When Giuliani, former mayor of New York City, was introduced soon after, the audience met him with a standing ovation.

Giuliani spoke for about 20 minutes, telling the audience to read, listen, take notes and think. He shared his experiences during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the revitalization of Times Square.

“I had a dream,” Giuliani said of his efforts to rebuild Times Square. “And that’s why I was able to accomplish it.”

Alex Newman of PNC Bank in Dayton attended the seminar with fellow employees. “These people are here at this point in their lives for a reason,” Newman said of the speakers. “It’s important to see how they got there.”

Nutter Center Marketing Manager Misty Cox said the seminar provided a rare chance for attendees to hear several high-profile speakers during one event. “It’s a great opportunity for the Dayton business community or anyone to get that experience,” she said.
