The company now has more than 350 employees total, with 250 in Sidney, said Russell Gottemoeller, Continental Express president.
Gottemoeller said the company has looked to extend its reach in the Southeast, particularly between Atlanta and Charlotte, N.C., for about two years now. The move puts the company’s drivers within a day’s transit time for the entire Southeast, he said.
“Business is challenging, to say the least,” Gottemoeller said. “This gives us a good opportunity to grow in the Southeast.”
Up until 2008, the firm had always enjoyed double-digit growth, the president said. Then in 2008, the firm saw only 4 percent growth before contracting for the first time in 2009. This year, Gottemoeller said, the firm is on track for 18 percent growth, not counting the new acquisition.
Continental, a truckload carrier specializing in refrigerated freight, has four maintenance facilities, 250 trucks and 500 trailers.
