Manufacturing facility opens in Springfield, bring 400 jobs

Silfex will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Thursday for its new manufacturing plant in Springfield.

The 350,000-square-foot facility is located on Titus Road near the PrimeOhio Industrial Park that previously housed the former Thirty-One Gifts plant. Silfex announced its expansion into Springfield in 2017.

Since then, Silfex officials said they planned to invest $223 million in their Springfield facility and vowed to bring 400 jobs to the area.

The manufacturing company held a job fair in April of 2018 where available positions included machinists, engineers, quality inspectors, clean room technicians, package assemblers and manufacturing supervisors.

Silfex was founded in Preble County and builds silicon components for a several industries, including everything from computer processors to cellphones to cars. The firm also grows silicon crystals at its existing plant in Eaton and will perform similar functions in Springfield.

The Springfield News-Sun will provide an update on the Silfex facility and the number of jobs available after the grand opening.
