BEAVERCREEK — Area Homebuilder Coventry Fine Homes will be featured on the television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, where it will — with lots of help — build a home over four days for a local family in need.
An army of between 1,500 and 2,000 volunteers, armed with donated building materials, will demolish an existing home and replace it with a new one in the span of 106 hours, said Rob Arnold, president of Coventry Fine Homes and Prudential One Realtors.
Arnold said his company’s involvement with the ABC television show began two weeks ago when its producers called him out of the blue and asked him to participate. The builder — who previously has provided two homes for charity raffles — said he doesn’t know who steered the producers in his direction,
Within days, he met with officials from the show and traveled to Erie, Pa., to watch the taping of an episode there.
Five area families are in the running to receive the home. Arnold won’t know the location of the construction site until after the producers select the winner, who will be notified on July 30. Construction will begin July 31.
Arnold said the fast-paced project will be a big undertaking, but also worthwhile.
“It’s a great thing for the community,” he said. “It’s a time where we can all say we’ve been through a tough period and, even through that, we still have the capacity to want to help others.”
