“It’s part of a series of open houses,” said Dana Brandenburg, spokesperson for the IRS office in Columbus. The state IRS office held some open house events prior to the April 15 deadline for filing federal income tax.
“The objective is to provide assistance to small businesses, the self-employed and individuals,” Brandenburg said.
Taxpayers can expect to get information on such topics like installment agreements, assistance with offers-in-compromise, return preparation, audits, payment arrangements, solutions to tax issues, copies of tax returns and transcripts, and various tax form information. Taxpayers also will be allowed to make payments.
Visitors will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis, and everyone who shows up to the event will be helped, according to Brandenburg.
Those attending Saturday’s event should take any notices received, all documents necessary to prepare their returns — such as W2, 1098 or 1099 forms or any document pertaining to the taxpayer’s situation.
