Local company to close distribution site

A distribution operation in Piqua is closing, with 14 workers set to lose their jobs in June.

Joyson Safety Systems Acquisitions LLC will close its location at 1401 Innovation Parkway, according to a letter from a human resources executive on behalf of the company to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The site will be permanently closed, and the anticipated closure date is June 28, the company said.

The Auburn Hills, Mich. company describes its focus as “mobility safety, providing safety-critical components, systems and technology to automotive and non-automotive markets.”

Joyson purchased air bag maker Takata in April 2018. Takata produced seat belts, airbags, steering wheels, child seats and other automotive safety features.

Takata had a major airbag recall for driver’s side and passenger’s side frontal airbags last month. Vehicles made by 19 different automakers with model years from 2002 to 2015 had airbags that could deploy explosively and injure or kill car occupants.

Affected positions include material handlers, a supervisor, shipping assistants and other positions.
