Honda touts environmental impact in Ohio

American Honda Motor Co. has released its 2009 environmental report, saying its Ohio manufacturing plants “are making substantial advancements in their environmental performance.”

The report covers operations for the company’s fiscal year, which ended March 31, 2009. It ranges from product development to end-of-life disposal, emphasizing reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Honda said its four plants in Ohio – the Marysville and East Liberty auto plants, the Anna engine plant, and the transmission plant in Russells Point – have “implemented ways to cut electricity use by 62.5 million kilowatt-hours per year – enough electricity to supply more than 5,500 typical households.”

The plants have also cut natural gas consumption by more than 417 million cubic feet per year, the company said.
