Egger made Security National Bank what it is today, said current President and CEO Bill Fralick, who was hired by Egger in 1976. Egger had been serving as chairman of the Security Board of Directors and vice chairman of Park National Bank until his death.
Fralick said Egger, whom he called his mentor, was a humble man who accomplished things behind the scenes.
“He was really the driving force with his leadership and his caring for the associates and the community,” Fralick said. “He was a great man. You can’t replace someone like that.”
Egger was dedicated to many different causes and served on many different boards, including the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, The Springfield Foundation, Wittenberg University Board of Trustees, Ferncliff Cemetery Board, Clark State Community College, Springfield Symphony Orchestra and the Springfield Rotary Club, among others.
During his tenure, Security National became one of the largest donors in the community, said Chamber President and CEO Mike McDorman.
“He paid it forward,” McDorman said. “He was a genuine person who really loved people and this community. He’s going to be greatly missed.”
Egger also received several awards, including the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Richard Kuss Award, Junior Achievement Person of the Year, Springfield High School Achievement Award and the Heritage Center Wall of Remembrance, among others.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1801 St. Paris Pike, Springfield, where a celebration of his life will begin at 4 p.m. Egger will be buried during a private service Monday in Ferncliff Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harry and Linda Egger Scholarship Fund, c/o The Springfield Foundation, 333 N. Limestone St., #201, Springfield, OH 45503.
