Downtown Springfield bakery offering gelato

Le Torte Dolci, in downtown Springfield, has announced they will now offer gelato in honor of their one-year anniversary.

Owner Dan Freeman said the out-pouring of support over the last year has been great, and the bakery has gelato on the menu in the month of May as celebration.

“The community has been so amazing,” Freeman said. “We never expected the community to be so great.”

The bakery will now offer gelato flavors that include stracciatella, chocolate hazelnut, caramel, cherry almond and blueberry, as well as daily and weekly special flavors.

The bakery is located along North Fountain Avenue, at 36 B N. Fountain Ave.

Originally started as a small business run out of their home, Le Torte Dolci’s business increased so quickly that the Freeman’s, Dan and Lisa, realized they needed more space before deciding to begin selling to the public.

Freeman said when the bakery first opened, the two were just focused on getting the business off the ground.

“After we first opened we were just worried about getting the name out there and before we knew it, we were hiring more staff and looking into expanding,” Freeman said.

Since opening, the bakery has been flooded with support from the community, Freeman said. So much so that the couple opened Salato Deli, located next door to Le Torte Dolci, in December of last year.

“We want to offer specials this month to thank people who have come in and tried us,” Freeman said. “And if they haven’t, maybe bring some new people in to check us out.”
