Code Blue hosting two job fairs at its downtown Springfield office

Springfield company Code Blue is looking to hire around 20 people this month and between 50 to 80 people throughout the year.

The water mitigation firm that manages claims nationwide is hosting two job fairs this week, including one today at the company’s downtown Springfield office, 14 E. Main St., that will last from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Another will be held at the same location on Saturday and will start at 10 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

The company is looking for claim representatives and those applying must have a high school diploma or GED as well as provide a resume.

The starting pay for claim representatives at the company is $12.74 per hour and some positions include an annual shift differential pay of $5,000, according to a notice for the two job fairs. The company is also advertising a $3,000 sign on bonus upon an employee’s one-year anniversary with the company.

Code Blue announced in April that the company was planning to hire 169 new positions at the company’s downtown Springfield office. At the time of the announcement, the founder as well as co-owner of the company Paul Gross said they wanted to fill the positions as quickly as possible, and would provide in-house training for all positions.

“We want to move as fast as we can - fast but not too fast that we can’t get the people acclimated if we are providing training and teaching them a new job,” he told the News-Sun last year.

Nancy Puerner, a human resources manager at Code Blue, said they have trained 172 new employees since 2018 and that roughly 93% of employees are promoted within the company.

Gross said that they want to hire up to 80 people this year, depending on the projected growth of the company, which has seen a growth rate of 35% per year over the last several years.

The current hiring interval for the company will end at the end of January and will pick back up in April, according representatives of Code Blue. In the meantime, those hired this month will enter a 4 to 6 week training period in February that will also include on-the-job training.

Gross and CEO Dan Wilson purchased the business in February of 2018. Gross told the News-Sun that the company has made significant management changes since then as well as introducing new products that resonate with the marketplace and promoting from within the company in order to bring in more outside talent.
